After over 4 years of research and development, several new improvements of the Royal Overdrive have been incorporated in its design. In addition to its usual tonal characteristics, here are the improvements made in the new design:

- Smaller Footprint
- Lighter than half of its original weight
- Hand wired metal Switchcraft jacks
